Chad Catledge: Company Owner
Chad Catledge was born and raised in Lancaster County with one goal in mind – to make a positive impact on the community he calls home. Chad graduated from Clemson University’s School of Architecture in 1996 with a B.S. in Design and an emphasis on Construction Management. He became employed with one of the nation’s top builders and developers, and gained knowledge and experience in the field for two years.
Realizing that his focus was better suited for Design Build projects, Chad took his experience from the prior company’s organizational layout and founded Perception Builders in 1998. To succeed in his business, he had one mission: To set the benchmark for excellence through effective management and meticulous supervision with a balance of creative design, modern technologies, and unsurpassed craftsmanship. To advocate a time proven plan for perfection and BUILD RELATIONSHIPS FOR A LIFETIME.
He has followed that mission and is able to measure his successes by it. Those successes allow him to participate in a number of civic and community organizations. Over the last few years, he has received numerous awards for his involvement. He considers being named the 2014 Business Man of the Year for Lancaster County to be among the top of his achievements, though he has also won such prestigious awards as Gov. Hodges’s Job Creator Award for his involvement with the Lancaster County School to Work program. He has also served in many positions on the Lancaster County HBA, as treasurer of the Lancaster High School Bruin Booster Club, Board of Directors for the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, Lancaster County First Steps, Springs Memorial Hospital, Springs Close Foundation, and a Past Commissioner of the Lancaster County Planning Commission. In addition, his office walls are lined with plaques from Dixie Youth baseball sponsorships and “thank you’s” from local charities that he has supported, of which he is most proud.
Chad’s management style is a direct reflection of who he is as a person. His beliefs in God, family, and the golden rule have served him well. His employees both respect and admire his dedication to quality work and to their professional as well as personal needs. This dedication to his staff urges them to be equally dedicated to giving him their best.
Lancaster, SC’s Experienced, Dedicated Construction Team
Chad Catledge founded Perception Builders in April 1998. Because of our dedication to our mission and our high reputation for our customer service, our business grew over 1800% between 1998 and 2005. Our staff has also grown, from one employee in 1998 to 12 employees in 2017. In addition, the amount of trade companies who work with us has greatly increased over the years. We believe that our quality service is what has allowed us so much success, as many of our new customers are referrals.
Since 1998, we have expanded our focus from commercial construction to three distinct Divisions. The first is the Construction Division, which helps our commercial clients with Design-Build, Construction Management, and General Construction. Our recent projects include the design and construction of the Native American Studies Center, renovation of the Historic Lancaster County Courthouse, and renovation and construction of the new Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
Our second division, the Facility Management Division, attends to the operational and maintenance needs of commercial clients. Our current clients include corporate headquarters, a municipal facility, charter schools and financial institutions.
Our Program Management Division, the third division, applies our expertise to several applications, and a variety of clients, including commercial, manufacturing and industrial. Our most notable projects include the Corporate Headquarters for Founders Federal Credit Union, the new Lancaster County Courthouse, and “Founders Hall,” a new classroom facility on the campus of USC Lancaster.
At Perception Builders, a challenge we face is balancing the demand for our services with a controlled growth business model. We are always wondering, how much is enough? For us, the answer is never a dollar amount, because the driving force behind our growth has always been our dedication to building relationships with employees, trade partners, vendors, or clients.
The economic downturn in 2008 resulted in an oversaturation of construction companies, trade contractors, and suppliers in the market, and many were forced to permanently close their doors. But Perception Builders continued to thrive, because we simply continued with our mission. During the recession, we created Facility Management and Program Management divisions, which helped us to grow the company. We even added three new employees and several new clients.
